Biography:
Joseph Ellis (fl. 1750 - d.1796)
From Clerkenwell, London, was a prolific English engraver in the late eighteenth century. In 1776 he engraved maps for the Hibernian Atlas together with William Palmer, with whom he also produced a a set of English County maps for the New English Atlas. These seem to be a close copy of Thomas Kitchin's maps in England Illustrated. Later editions were entitled Ellis's English Atlas in Fifty-Five Maps.
